What Inspired Our Princess Coloring Sheets

Our children, of course! As parents, we encourage our children to use their imagination often. Inspired by stories, our daughters have often pretended to be princesses in their games. We allow them to play the part of the fairest maiden or the fearless warrior princess saving their kingdom. It truly depends on the day and where their imagination takes them, but no doubt their love of dress up and play inspired us to create this series of coloring pages for them and you!

Our princess illustrations are modeled after European princesses, perhaps the most well-known princesses globally, due to their prominent roles in fairy tales and pop culture. However, globally there are many cultures that have princesses as leaders.

Though our princesses are illustrations inspired by popular European culture, we want to acknowledge that beautiful princesses exist in various cultures and societies around the world, including: 

1. African princesses: In many African cultures, princesses play important political and social roles. They may serve as advisors to rulers, act as diplomats, or even rule their own kingdoms or tribes. Many African princesses also play a key role in traditional ceremonies and rituals.
2. Middle Eastern princesses: In many Middle Eastern cultures, princesses are highly respected members of royal families and may be involved in politics, diplomacy, or philanthropy. They may also have a role in religious life, serving as patrons of mosques or other religious institutions.
3. Asian princesses: Princesses in Asian cultures may have a wide range of roles and traditions. In others, they may be involved in politics or serve as symbols of their country’s identity.
4. Indigenous princesses: Many indigenous cultures around the world have their own traditions of princesses or female leaders. For example, in the Americas, princesses may serve as spiritual or community leaders, while in Australia, indigenous princesses may have a role in preserving and promoting traditional knowledge and culture.
