The series is classified as “Beginning Reader.”

That’s the short answer!

The long answer, well, it depends!

Our Opinion on Elephant and Piggie Reading Levels

For us, you see, we have a family with children in and out of that age and grade range, both younger and older. Guess what? It doesn’t matter; they all LOVE the Elephant and Piggie Books. The best ages and reading levels depend on how you choose to read these stories, but we suggest 3 – 9 years old or preschool/pre-k up until grade 4. Throughout the reading journey of these books there is so much your children and you can take from reading these fun, exciting stories.

We started reading these when our oldest child was about three years old, and since then, they have become a family bonding experience.

We have learned through our experience reading and teaching our children to read that these books are an excellent way to build their joy in reading, grow their vocabulary, and help them to improve their tone and expression while reading.

We recommend that for the youngest readers in the range around 3 years olf, parents or educators assist them during reading. Help them sound out the words, point to the words, and have fun. With our older children who have developed more advanced reading skills, it becomes more about reading with passion and enthusiasm. Each reader can take a character and read their lines. It’s an absolute blast because the characters in Elephant and Piggie books are adorable, endearing, and full of emotion. It becomes a much larger production that is fun for the whole family and keeps the children engaged, which is why we consider Elephant and Piggy books as being appropriate for reading levels 3 – 9.
